Thailand’s proposed VAT rate changes

According to reports in mainstream media quoting Finance Minister, Ekniti Nitithanprapas, yesterday, plans are afoot to increase the tax burden on people spending money in Thailand.

Apparently 8.5% could hit by 2028, suggesting part/all of the increase could happen in 2026-27 although he indicated the economy would be better placed to support the increase in 2028.

The 10% rate to apparently come into effect during 2030.
