Happy Hallowe’en

Happy Hallowe’en – the evening of All Saints’ Day, traditionally.

According to an old text, the three grand days are All-hallown, Candlemass, and Ascension day.

All Saints’ Day was in the spring, but in the western church, it was moved to November 1 in 835 by Pope Gregory IV, coinciding with the Celtic festival of Samhain, the celebration of the dead.

Mexico and some South-American communities celebrate Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality
